General Manager in an Interview with *Ad-Dustour*: Strategic Storage System Bolsters Kingdom’s Crisis Resilience and Ensures Continuous Availability of Basic Commodities.
As part of the national role played by the Jordan Silos and Supply General Company in supporting the food security system and enhancing the Kingdom's readiness to face crises and supply chain challenges, *Ad-Dustour* newspaper conducted an interview with the General Manager, Eng.Emad AL- Tarawneh. The discussion covered the status of strategic grain reserves, storage capacities, and the company's role in ensuring the continuous availability of essential goods.
The General Manager stated that the Kingdom's total grain storage capacity is approximately 2.2 million tons—with about 750,000 tons held in the company’s silos—while current stocks cover the Kingdom's wheat needs for roughly ten months and barley needs for about eight months.
He emphasized that subsidizing wheat and barley is a steadfast strategic choice, given their status as essential commodities linked to food security and social stability. He noted that the stable availability of high-quality bread in the local market serves as a key indicator of the food security system's success.
The General Manager pointed out that the silo system operates around the clock within an integrated network extending from the Port of Aqaba to storage sites in Amman, Irbid, and Rusaifa. Operations include receiving and unloading ships, storing grain, and supplying mills with required quantities.
The interview also addressed the importance of monitoring grain from the moment shipments arrive in the Kingdom, subjecting them to a series of procedures and tests to verify compliance with approved specifications, thereby ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of the reserves.

The General Manager also highlighted Jordan’s experience in managing grain reserves and the potential to leverage this model across the Arab world. It serves as a replicable experience that can be adopted regionally, particularly given the growing importance of establishing strategic reserves capable of withstanding supply chain disruptions.
