Interview with General Manager Eng. Imad Al-Tarawneh: crises and their impact on stock availability
In an interview with Director General Eng. Imad Tarawneh on the "Sunday Economics" program on Al Mamlaka TV, he confirmed that Jordan's wheat and barley stocks are secure and stable, with wheat sufficient for 10 months, while barley stocks cover market needs for 8 months. Tarawneh explained that the contracts concluded by the government to purchase these commodities will not be affected by any increase in shipping or material prices.
He pointed out that Jordan has benefited from previous global crises, which prompted the government to enhance its storage capacity by increasing silo capacity to approximately 750,000 tons, in addition to establishing ground containers since 2009 with a capacity of nearly one million tons. He also noted that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is working on an early warning program to monitor food availability.
Regarding the closure of sea crossings, Al-Tarawneh affirmed that Jordan's crisis management has improved significantly, noting that Jordanian markets did not experience any shortages of basic commodities during previous crises, reflecting the effectiveness of government measures to ensure food security.
