Training course on grain storage technology - People's Republic of China

 Training course on grain storage technology for developing countries

The training program on grain storage technology was held in Chinese with English translation at the beginning of September 2023 and for one month at the Henan University of Technology in the city of Zhenghua in Henan Province, which is considered one of the leading universities in the field of grain production technology in the world and the first in the Republic of China in Teaching this course and has a large number of patents registered in the names of university teachers. The program was held with the participation of the Kingdom of Lesotho, located on the African continent, and the State of Cuba, located on the American continent.

A group of employees of the General Company for Silos and Supply participated in this training program as follows.

1- Thaer Abdul Karim Al-Dabbas - General Administration

2- Muhammad Ismail Al-Qadi - General Administration

3- Abdel Hakim Ali Shaalan - General Administration

4- Hassan Atef Al-Saqrat - Al-Rusaifah Complex

Location of the training program: Henan University of Technology in Zhenghua, China, funded by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

Course topics:

1- A historical introduction to the cultivation of grains on Earth to explain the original place of cultivation of most types of grains and the ancient mechanisms for growing grains.

2- A historical introduction to grain cultivation in the People’s Republic of China to explain the provinces and cities specialized in grain cultivation from ancient times to the present.

3- An introduction to methods of storing grains between the past and the present, mentioning each method in detail and explaining the pros and cons of using it.

4- An introduction to the modern means of storage methods used in the People’s Republic of China, including storage in horizontal warehouses and inflated silos in the form of balloons made of PVC, filled with polyurethane, and covered with extruded cement.

5- An introduction to the various methods used to sterilize grains in the world and their counterparts used in the Chinese Republic, explaining the pros and cons of each method.

6- An introduction to the insect and fungal infections that affect each type of grain and the most important preventive and therapeutic methods to reduce the impact of the infection and protect the stock.

7- An introduction to Chinese civilization, Chinese culture, the modern Chinese state, the Chinese experience in eliminating hunger once and for all, reducing poverty levels, learning the Chinese language characters, and experimenting with writing them.

Course activities

1. Visit the main laboratory of Henan University of Technology, which is a multi-storey building in which special grain procedures are carried out, in addition to a visit to the laboratories of a Chinese government company. Visitors were not allowed to photograph in some places for reasons of maintaining the confidentiality of information.

2. Attending a conference on food in African countries organized by the Chinese government in cooperation with the World Food Program, with the participation of several African countries, including the Comoros, Somalia, and Lesotho.

3. Visit rice farms in Henan Province and listen to a brief explanation of rice cultivation methods from specialists.

4. Take a recreational trip to the National Park in Henan City to enjoy seeing the picturesque nature of trees and rivers and take boat trips to several lakes and rivers.

Each of the Jordanian participants prepared a brief report on grains in Jordan. In addition, Mr. Abdul Hakim Shaalan presented a brief report on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in addition to presenting a brief report on the Jordan Silos and Supply General Company  .
